Bring your lawn back to life with an annual dethatching!
Thatch buildup can cause your yard to have a deadened, yellow look. When thatch builds up, new growth is being choked off, and your yard can’t flourish.
Generally, a lawn should be dethatched in the spring and fall when the turf is actively growing. Dethatching in the spring also revives grass that has been compacted under winter snow, preparing your lawn to thrive in the summer months. In addition to regular spring and fall dethatching, lawns that are over-watered, over-fertilized, or growing on clay soils will likely need to be dethatched more often. The frequency of dethatching is also dependent on the type of grass you have.
Grasses that need at least annual dethatching are:
- Kentucky Bluegrass
- Bermudagrass
- Bentgrass
Grasses that can generally wait a few years between dethatching are:
- Tall Fescue
- Perennial Ryegrass
